We publish original research, reviews, and case studies across the full spectrum of medical and health sciences. Browse our subject areas below to identify the most appropriate section for your manuscript.
This section publishes original research, reviews, and case studies addressing the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of human diseases. Areas of focus include internal medicine and its subspecialties (such as cardiology, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, hepatology, nephrology, rheumatology, endocrinology, and infectious diseases), as well as paediatrics, geriatrics, dermatology, and palliative care.
This section welcomes manuscripts exploring surgical techniques, innovations, and outcomes across general surgery and its subspecialties. Contributions may address minimally invasive and robotic surgery, perioperative and postoperative care, surgical oncology, trauma and emergency surgery, transplant surgery, urology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, and surgical training.
This section focuses on perioperative medicine, anaesthetic techniques, pain management, intensive care, and emergency medical care. Submissions may address anaesthetic pharmacology, regional anaesthesia, resuscitation, acute care interventions, critical care monitoring, sedation practices, and perioperative patient safety.
This section publishes research on diagnostic and interventional imaging modalities, including radiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, molecular imaging, and interventional radiology. We welcome studies advancing imaging techniques, diagnostic accuracy, image-guided interventions, radiation safety, and the integration of artificial intelligence in medical imaging.
This section covers research on women's health across the lifespan, including maternal-foetal medicine, high-risk pregnancy, reproductive endocrinology, fertility and assisted reproduction, gynaecological oncology, urogynaecology, contraception, and menopause management. We encourage submissions that improve maternal and neonatal outcomes and advance women's reproductive health.
This section publishes research on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental health disorders. Areas of focus include mood and anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive disorders, psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, and community mental health, with an emphasis on service delivery and integration of mental health care into general medical practice.
This section publishes research on oral and craniofacial health, dental diseases, and their prevention and management. Areas of focus include restorative dentistry, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, paediatric dentistry, oral pathology, oral medicine, dental public health, and preventive dentistry, including work linking oral health to systemic diseases and overall well-being.
This section publishes multidisciplinary research on health, wellness, and healthcare delivery. Areas of interest include nursing, rehabilitation sciences, nutrition and dietetics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and hearing sciences, sports medicine, exercise science, health education, and allied health professions, with a focus on strengthening health systems and improving quality of care.
This section features research on population health, with emphasis on health promotion, disease prevention, and health equity. Topics include epidemiology, health policy, health systems research, environmental and occupational health, global health, preventive interventions, and health economics, including work on social determinants of health and strategies for strengthening prevention at community and population levels.
This section covers the foundational disciplines underpinning modern medicine, including physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, pathology, immunology, genetics, toxicology, and related biomedical sciences that advance scientific understanding of health and disease. We particularly welcome studies that bridge basic science and clinical application, including research in clinical pharmacology and therapeutics.
This section focuses on diagnostic and clinical laboratory sciences, including haematology, clinical microbiology, virology, parasitology, clinical chemistry, clinical immunology, cytology, histopathology, autopsy pathology, molecular diagnostics, and laboratory technologies. We encourage research that links laboratory innovation with improved diagnosis, prognosis, treatment monitoring, and point-of-care testing.
This section welcomes research investigating the molecular, cellular, and physiological mechanisms of health and disease. Focus areas include biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, cell biology, systems biology, and bioinformatics, with an emphasis on translational studies that contribute to diagnostics, therapeutics, precision medicine, and understanding of disease pathogenesis.
This section covers research on human behaviour and the strategies used to understand, predict, and influence it, reflecting the evolving and interdisciplinary nature of psychology and applied neuroscience. We welcome manuscripts addressing the interplay of biological, behavioural, social, economic, and environmental processes affecting mental well-being, including theoretical, experimental, clinical, or applied perspectives and related intervention strategies.
This section publishes research on the intersection of healthcare and information technology, including electronic health records, telemedicine, mobile health applications, artificial intelligence and machine learning in healthcare, clinical decision support systems, health data analytics, and digital therapeutics.
